The names listed have been compiled from Public Record Office Information, World War One Medal Lists, Army Service Records, Australia's World War Two Roll of Honour Website and from Family Information. Sadly, most of the British Army's records were destroyed during World War Two when their storage facility received a direct hit from German Incendiary Bombs. I am sure that there are many family members missing from the list, particularly those who have served since WW2 and I sincerely hope that they and/or their relatives will update me.

In conflicts there have been two known fatalities:-

Frederick James during 2nd Boer War (1900)

William David during WW1 (1917)

The World War One Medal Lists indicate that several family members

received The Silver War Badge in recognition of their service

discharge as a result of wounds or sickness received or contracted

during the War.

In respect of WW1 it is worth noting that until January 1916 it was voluntary registration in the armed forces. But the lack of sufficient new recruits to stem the flow of losses on various battlefronts around the world, led to Conscription at that time for those aged 18 - 41 unless married or in reserve occupations. Within months the marital status exclusions had been dropped, medically unfit were being re-examined, Home Territorials were called-up and by April 1918, at the height of the German Spring offensive, the age limits were extended to 17 - 51.

Between the outbreak of war and January 1916 3 million men volunteered.

From January 1916 to War end 2.3 million men were conscripted.
